No ally targeted skills in GW2

[:1]See here.
I knew the monk was out, but I assumed that prot would still make it into the game in various forms. In PvP, targeted prot is one of the things that really made GW2 stand apart from anything else as a tactical game. It was revolutionary. And they are ditching it. Sad face.|||No direct ally targeting skills. You can still do plenty to help your allies, but now it's about your positioning, not if they're within your bubble for some redbar action.|||Quote:

Yeah, it's going to be AoE prot instead. I mean, everyone loved paragons, right?|||Wow. I'm thinking back to Destiny's Edge and remembering all the times Logan used Prot magic on his allies and... I can't think of a single one. Now that you mention it, he was always "painting the air" or something.
What about heals, though?
Also:

The spirit weapons are summoned for the guardian themselves; however they can still be used to protect allies by activating their abilities against enemies targeting those allies.

Ick. From that sentence, it sounds like not even Wards will help protect allies... He must have misspoke because we've seen AOE protection in the Guardian videos.
EDIT: Actually, maybe he might you need an enemy target to even use the skill?|||Wards, AoE, ground-targeted, etc...
I think what they're going for is removing the interface, which is not a bad thing TBH. Red-bar isn't the most fun way to support. Instead you'll still support, heal, prot, buff, but you'll do it right on the battle field.
Sounds great. I just hope it works out. Lots of red-bar addicts will QQ though... I just hope that the new system is as fun as it sounds.|||Quote:

Guardians have Healing Breeze, but it's some kind of cone AoE, healing ray kind of thing. Can't target allies, but you can point it towards them.|||Pretty cool.
I happen to know it's pretty cool because AoC did it already, and it works very well. I'm surprised at how often I realise AoC did it already when new GW2 features are announced. I expect the difference to be in implementation though, go ANet!|||ANet is pretty good at stealing what works, and ditching (or changing) what doesn't.|||No sad face.
Happy face. Very happy face.

Every game with a "healer" role, at some point, becomes a glorified version of "whack a mole". You watch the bank of party bars, click the one that's going down, and use skills to make it go up. You watch the rest of the game out of the corner of your eyes, but the party bars are your main focus.
That's crap. Sorry healers, but that's crap.
No "red bars go down, red bars go up" gameplay makes me happy.|||Yeh. But the sad face wasn't about healing being gone, it was about prot being gone. Or at least targeted prot.
