John and Eric Answer Your Items and Loot Questions

http://www.arena.net/blog/john-and-e...loot-questions
Nice info there, shame my question of "Is it possible to use a stone to make heavy armor look like light / medium armor" wasn't answered, i can still dream xP
They also confirm more about how the stones work, and that they can work on weapons as well as armor.
Gotta say I'm loving the armor designs they showcase in this article
Though unless the stones can make heavy look like light / medium, its likely i wont ever get to wear them (Main will most likely be a warrior, same as in GW1), which is a shame cause they look so awesome
Also i think this was peoples main gripe with the stones which has now been answered.

Q: What exactly are transmutation stones and how do they work?
Eric: Transmutation stones are really about taking the appearance of an item you love and making a new similar item you find look the way you want it to look. Transmutation stones are consumable items with a single charge that allow you to take two weapons or armor pieces and create a new piece of equipment that combines the look and stats that you want from each piece. If you really like the look of a particular shortbow, for example, but you’ve acquired another short bow with better stats, you can use a transmutation stone to merge the look of your old bow with the stats of the new weapon.
A: Transmutation stones have nothing to do with finding max stat gear. All weapons and items will be available through normal play over the course of the game.
.

So if I'm reading that right, all weapon and armor skins are available from somewhere in low and max stat variations, wonder if the theory of redoing low end dungeons at higher levels unlocking higher stat version of those "Unique" armor sets was right....

John: Yes, each weapon and piece of armor has inherent bonuses as well as an open slot that an upgrade component can be applied to for extra bonuses [...] The inherent bonuses on armor are fixed. However, the player can enhance their armor by applying crests to their armor.

I am interested to see what the "inherent" bonuses include.

One buy, one go (they got to be cheap in-store; buy them in bulk (heh)?)

We’re not certain at this time whether or not transmutation stones will be available outside of the in-game store. Philosophically we believe that players should have a way to acquire items like transmutation stones through the course of playing the game and not just through purchase in the in-game store. We’ll talk in greater detail about how we plan to accomplish this when we arrive at a final paradigm.

Yay.

In fact, we have a ton of very cool armor at the high end of the game, which means that many players will never use a transmutation stone since they’ll want to keep the appearance of the new gear that they find.

Eh...|||Quote:

When i saw that, i instantly thought "Little red riding hood combined with gothic lolita"
Also the resource gathering info is interesting, when you mine a copper node, it loses its "Veins" until its just a stone, while to anyone who hasnt mined it, it still has its copper veins, interesting approach i must say
And my fave armor pic on that article was the second one

The female armor reminds me of an elementalist outfit, and the male one reminds me of a dervish xD

Defense value and weapon damage.|||Quote:

Defense value and weapon damage.

Well...yes ; I'll word it differently: whether there will be different inherent bonuses (i.e. Fear Resistance +34%) one can find in armor/weapons that cannot be put on with crests or other player customizable features (except for the transmutation stones).

I got Fae vibes from that one.
...
And thank you Anet for another article on this!|||Quote:

Ritualist was the profession that popped into my head.
But that one isn't confirmed yet anyways..|||Quote:

Eh...

I think it's true, for the most part. Some people will probably use transmutation stones to get a few low-level things to have the same stats as the better armor, and then mix-and-match for their own special little snowflake look.|||I'm glad to see ANet considering making tran stones available in-game. Again, how this works will depend a lot on how many skins are unavailable naturally at max stats.
One interesting thing to consider is that one stone transmutes a single pair of weapons or armor pieces. A full suit of armor consists of six pieces- if you want a matching set, you'll need six tran stones.

If the demo is anything to go by, equipment just have random bonuses to attribute scores (plus the obvious damage and defense, and crests for armor).
Though there was also those ghostly weapons that charr started with that gave life steal at night... Unknown if that's from the weapon equivalent of a crest, or it's a special property specific to that weapon.

No, that sentence just says that all item types (swords, staffs, heavy armor, etc) will be available at all range of stats. He was clarifying that tran stones have nothing to do with acquiring max stat gear, just with acquiring specific skins.|||there is one thing i really hate right now:

Q: Will Tailoring be a player-crafting discipline in Guild Wars 2?

John: Yes, Tailoring is one of the several crafting disciplines players can choose from that we presently have planned for Guild Wars 2.

this will mean that we have to make a mill of the same armor just to make that other, more pretty armor that you would like.
bad decision Anet, a really bad one.|||Quote:

I actually thought more of ritualist than elementalist because of the tattoos but yeah it's my fav too. looove the boots in particular

You mean like having to craft 50 copper breastplates that no one wants before you can make the silver breastplate you do want? They've already stated that they are trying to avoid that in the new crafting system.

Expect a crafting system that has multiple crafting professions, discourages player conflict over resource nodes, no “throw away” crafting of items that you don’t care about, and generally works with and enhances all of the other game systems in GW2.
