As of now, by just looking at some of the gameplay videos on youtube, I really think this game will be triumphant over wow(World of warcraft).
Of what the game offers, incredible graphics, and basically incredible everything, without the subscriptions fees. To be so much nicer than WoW, but wow being 15$ a month, Guild Wars 2 beats WoW by a long shot. Even the other Guild wars beat wow.
I am sure that this one will finally take over WoW.
Post what you think :)|||no
12345678|||I think this has been discussed in great detail already, though maybe not on this forum, but no, I don't think GW2 will overtake WoW. Will some WoW players move to GW2? Yes, I think so. But WoW has an amazing following and it's a very different game in the end. There are many people who like and prefer things in WoW that won't be in GW2. This doesn't mean I don't think GW2 will be successful, far from. But GW2 will appeal to a different kind of gamer than, I think, many of those who play WoW. Besides, as has been said by others, nothing's to stop people from playing both at the same time.|||I agree with Giggles, it is unlikely to be the WoW killer.
Guild Wars has it's own style of play. They may be incorporating more mainstream ideas, but they are doing it in their own way.
Generally speaking, the game that takes over from WoW will be one that does the "WoW experience" better than Blizzard can. Since Arenanet isn't even aiming at the "WoW experience"...it's unlikely to to be the WoW killer.
The thing most people forget is that a game (any game) doesn't have to beat WoW to be successful.|||I have a feeling that despite being a different game from WoW, I think people will start asking the question about this game being a WoW "killer" (or not) as we get close to release date.|||Will WoW die, probably not. But I do think GW2 has a very strong chance of overtaking WoW.
WoW is getting old, and although being a subscription model etc it is still the place to be for social MMO gaming. Other games didn't make the cut because (1) they cost the same, and (2) they didn't offer enough innovation on account of being clones. So a critical mass never shifted for longer than 1-2 months.
I can see a critical mass moving over to GW2 and never coming back, spelling the beginning of the end for WoW.|||Plenty of games are better then WoW, graphics/gameplay/any number of fields
But people won't just drop their level 80's because another game looks better, at this juncture I'm not sure it's possible to kill WoW.|||Each game will thrive in the niche it has created.
WoW has shown by now, that it, itself, does not have a life. South Park has already elaborated that, "That which hath no live, cannot die."
WoW is a Lich of a Game.
...
I would propose a new question; will GW2 blow all the rest of the competing MMOs under WoW out of the water? I think so.
Will MMOs in general (including WoW) take notice of GW2 and try implementing (variations too) some of the new ideas Anet is toying with themselves; I most certainly hope so.|||If Anet can put out a second SUCCESSFUL free-to-play MMO, I think that will make companies start to realize that free-to-play is possible. I also think we may start seeing more free-to-play MMOs come out IF GW2 is successful. And if this all holds true, it could spell the beginning of the end for WoW. No matter how popular WoW is, if more and more new MMOs get released by big companies that are free-to-play and are successful, I'm not sure people will stick around with their $15 a month, unless Blizzard drops the monthly fee.
But, in the end we shall see what happens. Every new MMO has the potential to be a WoW-killer. You can't just simply dismiss them until they show signs of not being a killer. But to be honest, I don't see just one game being the end-all-be-all. One game will start the downfall, but it will take several games to fully kill WoW. I think GW2 just may be that game to start it.|||Quote:

But seriously though, WoW does offer some cool stuff, or so I hear... I just never got far enough to try endgame and see if it's worth the XP grind. Solo / persistent gameplay is boring imo, but I've yet to see a MMO pull that off (GW2 sounds promising actually with siderolls events etc).
For a game to kill this, it'd have to offer (1) at least the same features that keep people in WoW, (2) enough additional features to get people to move over, and (3) enough of a population shift to create its own critical mass, so that the population shift continues to happen.
I think GW2 has that kind of potential, I have not seen a single game otherwise that would be anything WoW-killer-like even GW1. As much as I love GW1, it doesn't have enough of #1 to become a WoW-killer.
