Few questions

Hey guys!
I have a few questions to ask u. Hope u have time to answer them.
1. I have played GW1 for about 2 years and then stopped coz i had no time to play and game kinda seemed to fade in gaming world.
So i am asking you is GW1 still popular game and is there a lot of ppl playing it?
And do i get anything from my GW1 account if i buy GW2?
2. GW2 has really drawn my attention and I am sure i will buy the game.
Do you think GW2 will take a lot of time to play, or will it be more casual than WoW, so i can log in when i have time and play for half an hour, log out and come back later?
3.a) I do not understand the potions in this game.
I understand what they do, but every hero has spell that heals him, so whats the role of pots?
3. b) How many professions have been announced to come out?
I know there is 5 now, but how many is about to come up?
4. Do you think GW2 is in it's final stage or is there a lot to be done before they announce the game release?
5. How many people do u expect to play GW2?
I am hoping for 4-5 mil
I rly like the event system, it rules.
If i have any other question, i'll ask
thx guys!|||Hey there and welcome to the forum.
1. GW1 is still reasonably popular. Obviously numbers have gone down a little but overall the HoM announcement revitalized a lot of the game. There are people in many of the minor outposts, at least in the american districts which I frequent.
2. It depends how you want to play the game. A hardcore completionist may find it very hard to play in small intervals because of the nature of Dynamic Events. Eg, when you complete one a new one pops up etc. However, it should take less time to get into the action overall since there is less focus on making a party out of specific classes so that you have any hope of succeeding.
3. There are no health potions in the game, only energy ones. The energy ones refil your energy so you can use the skills that heal yourself and generally survive.|||Thx, I think I'll be more active on forum from now on.
Y i see your point in event system.
Well, I just want to drop by with my friends from time to time and do few events, log out and come back later that day when I have free time.
I was really addicted to GW1 in some period.
I remember playing like 12h a day.
That is just sick, and I do not want to experience that addiction once more.
3. I totally missunderstud pots.
So those are ENERGY pots. That makes sense.
In GW1 there was common regeneration over time, and u had some spells that boosted that regeneration, right?
And there were spells that when u use them, they give u certain amount of energy (mana).
Am I right? (I played long time ago, sry :D )
I can tell u I dont like the idea of pots, but will see how that works out.|||Yeah, in GW1 there was regeneration over time and some spells that boosted that regen or outright gave you energy or denied energy to others. The energy cap was also a lot lower. In GW1 energy management was a big factor in high level fights and that seems to not be as much of a factor in GW2.
Another thing that should be noted about potions in GW2 is that there is still energy regen. The regen is enough to cover for continued use of attack skills (the first 5 weapon skills) so if you only attack you'll likely never run out of energy. The only time when your energy really drops is when using your elite, or a defensive skill or when you dodge an attack (dodging takes 5% of your total energy if I recall correctly). In short if you are getting beaten up, so is your energy.
As for your other questions:
4. There will be 8 professions in total, separated in sections by what armor they can wear. There are 3 scholars, who wear light armor, 3 adventurers, who wear medium armor, and 2 soldiers, who wear heavy armor. 1 scholar and 2 adventurers still have to be revealed.
5. I personally am hoping for release by the end of 2011 but we currently don't know exactly what percentage of the game is finished.
6. 4-5 mil is a lot of players and though I do hope the numbers will go that high, I doubt it. The first GW sold 6 million copies but it doesn't actually have 6 million players.|||Yeah, I'm new here too.
I think the total number of players in GW1 is roughly around 2-3 million.
tl;dr, but I'll come back to this thread.|||1. To get anything in GW2, you need to work on your Hall of Monuments in GW1 (with the EotN expansion). http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hom
2. ANet makes casual games. No subs is your first cue, they don't need you to spend time playing... so logging in every once in a while only means you progress more slowly, but you should be able to catch up relatively well.
3a. Energy used for healing.
3b. There are 8 professions total in the initial release.
4. That's very speculative... but I expect late 2011 or even early 2012.
5. I think GW2 will make a huge dent in the WoW population, starting the downfall of WoW. Put it this way, it's an improvement over WoW on many fronts, and no monthly fees.|||Oh i messed up my question numbers, but edited it now :D :D
U think i haven't done much in HoM.
I remember buying EotN and quitting quite few months after :(
Guys is it just me, or you too find race-profession mix weird.
Just imagine charr necro/ele or asuran warrior.
I like the idea, just hoping they will make that look nice.
What are u going to choose for your first hero? (what race, what profession?)|||It might be worth looking at HoM. You get 3 points just for linking your GW1 account. Putting a few things in it like a few minis (you get some free ones on characters for each birthday they have) or an elite armor can rank up some points easily. If you finished a campaign that probably counts (I forget the details). The point is, you might already have done enough to earn some GW2 rewards.
I find some race-prof mix weird, but I think it's part of the charm. I personally hate when they make that decision for you... I'm still bummed at Blizz for not allowing Night Elf Warlock (despite one well-known night-elf warlock existing). Also, not enough choices for the druid class (and no reason not to). I'd much rather see an Asuran Warrior, than not have that choice at all. I'm sure they'll find a way to make sense of it.
My heroes will depend a lot on racial skills, but Sylvari or Norn Necro is likely.|||Y I was just about to edit my choice.
I am thinking of asuran necro or human/norn elementalist.
Just like the looks of asuran town, that's why :D
I agree with your statement. We will be able to have some really strange mixes which will make the game more interesting.
If I find password for my GW1 account, I will check that HoM and see if I can get anything useful.
Can u tell me what is the expected price of a game?|||1 more question:
6. Is there going to be separated PvP and PvE worlds like in GW1 or it will be WoW style where u can walk around the PvE area and see other people (which i find true due to the event system)
But, can u clear this out for me.
I rly didnt like this thing in GW1 where u had to add pople to party and then go to PvE..
