Bit it's been almost two months with no new profession announcements, and you've left me with no choice:

Lead Guild War Designer Eric Flannum Announces Cancellation of future Professions
In a surprising announcement, the lead designer for upcoming ArenaNet game Guild wars 2 has revealed that the game will have only 4 professions, half the previously announced number for the game.
"We had planned on including 8 profession in the game", said the lead designer, "But the development process led us to the conclusion that 4 professions worked better for balance, as well as allowing us to flesh out the professions more fully."
Though unexpected, the announcement should not come as a complete surprise. Says Flannum "Our philosophy throughout the development process has been to rely on fewer, but more interesting skills, and this change should allow us to approach professions in a similar way."
Asked what the remaining planned professions had been, Flannum remained tight lipped. "We do not wish to reveal the remaining professions at this time, as we might make use of some mechanics in future content." Expansions, perhaps?
For now, Arenanet will continue to develop its remaining professions, and we will continue to bring new guild wars 2 information as it is revealed.
Better get a move on, or I might have to reveal that the Warrior profession has been removed, or that rangers will no longer have pets.|||You almost got me|||This is what would happen if it were true:|||You almost got me there.
I do admit it's been a long time since the last profession update, but look at the bright side. They are still much better than blizzard at giving news updates. Take a look at D3. It took them one year to give a class update and even then they only show one model for the character.|||At another forum, someone mentioned how he overheard, during PAX, how Arena Net had been revealing so much information mostly to get people excited about the GW2 demo, and now that the demo had been made available at some conventions, the speed of new announcements would fall considerably (like, no more new professions this year).
Of course, that comment got zero credibility ("I know a guy who knows a guy whose cousin once dated a chick who said that her brother in law heard a guy who went to PAX and said someone told him his sister had overheard an Arena Net guy talking to someone"). But now, I wonder...
...What if GW2 is farther away than we think? I had previously been guessing at a release on April 28th of 2011, but we have had several comments from Arena Net stating how stuff simply isn't done yet. Just to give an example, in a German interview here, released this week, Martin states:
3) It has been said that you can adjust the UI. Can you disable the aura of enemies (or lower its intensity)? Or do the same with skilleffects?
A: At the moment we don't know yet how customizable the UI and the skilleffects will be.
5) Can we expect to see numbers in the skill descriptions? At the moment you could only read the effects, so it was impossible to calculate the damage the skill would do.
A: Yes, you can. We did not have time to implement this in the demo.
2) Structured PvP shall be handled similar to FPS games, can we expect a lobby system where people can chose different matchtypes?
A: Our plan is to implement something like that, though at the same time we want to give it our personal touch. As soon as we have the details worked out we will inform you.
3) When can we expect more informations about WvW?
A: When we have the feeling that most details are fixed in stone. According to our philosophy we only talk about things when they are ingame and working as we want them to.
1) Why did we see so little of Sylvari/Norn/Asura?
A: We are still working on Norn and Sylvari and do not think them as finished as other races.
There's a lot that isn't ready yet. Some people from the New York meet and greet even mentioned how Arena Net plans to redesign the way the Sylvari look.
So, if we were really looking at a very late release (say, late 2012)... What should Arena Net have done? At one side we had plenty of players desperately craving for more information about the game, together with Arena Net's promise that, when they announced something about GW2, it would be very big; plus, it would help a lot NC Soft's trust in Arena Net's very long and costly project if an unfinished version got a lot of praise from players and press. In other hand, we have a situation in which, if the release is going to take a long time, Arena Net would have made a lot of announcents only to move now to a long interval of relative silence, which would likely frustrate players considerably (see this topic, and GW2Wiki has been filled these last weeks with comments about where is the next profession reveal, for example). It would have made sense, then, to make one of the last announcements of the previous reveal wave to be about the Hall of Monuments, since that has led people to distract themselves a bit with GW1.
What do you people think Arena Net should have done, if the speculation above about a late release were true?

At another forum....
To comment on the above 2 posts (Enion and Erasculio): I am wondering if something similar to the Diablo pattern will take place with these, where the last few releases take longer and longer to come out (whether because they take longer and longer to develop well, or because of some other public relations reasons.)
As for different elements not being finalized, my guess is leaning between "The are mostly finished, just balancing for a 2011 release" (Backed up by Anet's FAQ's about how they announced the game too early, will be doing a more complete beta, etc., suggesting that Anet made sure they were well along before all these new announcements) and Erasculio's possibility the the game is still a couple years away. Not being too familiar with how game design tends to go, I don't have any solid ideas of which would be the case.|||Quote:

If they're going to work on the looks of a race, it should be the Asura...|||At this rate, I'm starting to think that the hype was indeed for the demo and that the remaining professions which are newer/need more done to get them balanced... will not be revealed this year after all. There are a lot of holidays coming up, and with all the promised updates on gw1... it would not be completely surprising.
Not because they won't be working on gw2, simply because they will be keeping us busier than usual with gw1 stuff plus people will already be busy with holidays so a lot of people wouldn't be paying attention to the hype.
Neither do I expect the information to just immediately restart next year either. Give it a month... or even two *sigh*.
(I hope I'm wrong)|||I hope you're wrong too djacob, and I sincerely hope they don't decide to take this the D3 route. Hyping the game only to have it fade from the public eye does not seem like a good way to advertise the game. Then again it would be much worse to hype the game and release it before it's ready (I'm looking at you FFXIV), so I do want them to take their time and make an excellent game. But even so, I can't stop wanting more information. I dearly hope there will be a profession reveal this week, or some equally interesting news, such as PvP.|||I think they're just sticking with a slow trickle of information to keep us strung along until release so we know about and buy the game. It does'nt have to be class releases, just stuff that seems interesting enough so that the media posts it, like HoM. I think assasin is the next class though, as one of the concepts and the App article on Kotaku shows assassin like characters, in my head. Skill guy must be trying to work a non-insta kill function into his graphing calculator.
It's funny though, that they're finished enough to be talking about microtransactions then going back and saying it not set in stone or whatever.
