GW2 on consoles

Simple question - if GW2 comes to consoles, will you buy it? I only just found out it was a possibility today and I've been thinking about it quite a bit.

Quote:

I just want to reiterate that the development team is fully focused on making GW2 the best PC MMO ever released. We have a very small team exploring the possibility of console, but there are no definite plans for a console version at this time. The core of Guild Wars 2 development is fully focused on delivering a fantastic PC MMORPG experience.

It seems unlikely it will happen, but hypothetically, if it does, would you buy it? I don't think I would.
On a 360 controller, there are 8 buttons, plus a d-pad (4 buttons) and 2 thumbsticks. If 10 buttons are mapped to skills, one to interact and one to select closest/next then I suppose it is possible... But it seems unlikely to me that even with ANet's expertise the control possibilities of a keyboard would be attainable on consoles.|||Why would I buy an MMO for a console? It'd be pure stupidity. A few years ago they tried to introduce RTSs to the Console world. Almost every game was a massive failure for two reasons. Typically people who play the console aren't interested in RTSs (or MMOs for that matter) and of course in my personal opinion the console control system is massively inefficient. I understand that an RTS is quite different from an MMO but the base principles remain the same.
Consoles dominate a lot of the gaming industry because of the games they produce. Most American males my age play some form of FPS on some console, myself included. These same dedicated CoD, Halo, and Killzone fans typically aren't interested in any other form of game. I would put WoW in a different category because of its inherent addictive nature and pre-existing reputation. We may think or know that Guild Wars is the second most popular MMO out there but a lot of people haven't even heard of it. Everyone knows WoW, CoD, Halo, Killzone etc.
So yeah. It wouldn't be a good idea at all and of course I wouldn't buy it anyway when i have my nice computer right here in front of me with which I can do oh so many more things than on a console.|||Simple answer: No
Why? I'm not a console gamer.

First of all I'd just like to point out Final Fantasy 11 to say that console MMO's are not entirely impossible or unlikely, While Final Fantasy XI was bloody awful, it apparently warranted a sequel, a sequel that will be on consoles.
Also I'd like to say I disagree, Consoles dominate the game world for a number of reasons and the top most of which isn't the games, because quite a few of those are available for PC, the reason they dominate is because they specialize, you don't have to worry about a 360 game not playing on your 360 for the most part, but for PC gaming, especially as you go into the higher echilons of gaming, you have to spend some money.
But to answer the question, I certainly wouldn't buy the console version, I don't do console gaming online.|||Quote:

Well I have to say you have a fair point and that certainly is a factor. Very few prefer to play shooters (which I still think dominate the gaming industry) on computers. Also MMOs, while social, don't have the party aspect which I think attracts a certain number of people. I know very few console gamers who don't play with their brothers, sisters, friends, or even parents on occasion. To do that for PC you'd need two computers and MMOs probably wouldn't be much fun splitscreen anyway. So that certainly does tie into the money again, which I suppose, as you say, really is a driving factor, but I still think not as many people find MMOs or even RPGs as alluring. Since the console industry is geared towards the majority I doubt it'd be financially advantageous to try to tap into that market.
And... well Final Fantasy games always do seem to warrant a sequel...|||No, I would not buy GW2, or any MMO on a console. Personally, I think it would ruin the feel of the game.
The only games I want for consoles are generally Racing, Sports, and Fighting games. Final Fantasy must be for a console or handheld (not like you can get them for anything else...except XI and XIV). Nintendo is a whole different beast that I'm not going to get into.
My computer is for Shooters, Stragety, and other genres that would be too complicated (IMO) for a controller.

Shooters on computers are so much better than on a console. The only reason I got CoD: Black Ops on PS3 was so I could play it with my brother. If it wasn't for him, I'd have it right here.

Arguably, the best selling Final Fantasy games got sequels. IV and VII being two of the higher selling Final Fantasy games for their times. I would imagine X and XII sold well enough to warrant sequels. And surely, while most people don't seem to like it for whatever various reasons are out there, it's hard to argue the fact that XIII did sell pretty well, and that is getting a sequel.
XI and XIV I'm pretty sure don't have much to do with one another, thus making them not sequels. Just like any other numbered game in the series, I would suspect they aren't related. I refuse to play either of them simply because I would have to pay however much a month to play it. However, I would consider playing XI or XIV before I EVER considered WoW.|||It could definitely work on a 360 controller, as they could just use the triggers to alternate between skills, like Dragon Age: Origins did and the bumpers to switch between equipment sets. That said, the inventory would inevitably be incredibly clunky and more annoying to navigate than with a keyboard + mouse.|||I don't own any modern consoles (An original NES doesn't really count as "Modern") so, I can safely say I will not be buying any console game, let alone a MMO.|||Quote:

I couldn't agree more. However from what I've seen from kids at my school, and more or less everyone I know, this opinion makes us part of a minority.|||I love my XBOX 360 (especially the Assassin's Creed series). However, I'm a big time TV junkie, and one of the appeals of playing PC games is I can do that and watch TV at the same time. That's kind of hard to pull off with console systems without having 2 TVs in whichever room I'm gaming in.
