Guild Wars 2 Trailer among the Top 5 MMO Trailers @ Massively

Well, with the year quickly coming to an end, it is time for many to review the happenings of the year and give out awards for outstanding accomplishments.
Massively (http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/12...ilers-of-2010/) has also given out for the top 5 trailers for MMORPGs, and GW2 is among them! Note this is for trailers not actual games. What do you think about the rankings? Do you agree with them?|||You have to agree with #1 -- incredibly impressive trailer. Great to see the Manifesto trailer at #3.|||IMO #2 should be #3 and #3 should be #2, it's just that the trailer of rift doesn't make you want to play the game while the one of GW2 does.|||Well, if they're only voting on the quality of the trailer, I'd have to put GW2 before Rift, here's why:
1. A lot of what the devs are saying in the Rift trailer about "changing the genre" was said in the manifesto first.
2. The in-game graphics don't look any better than that of GW2.
3. The dynamic "world changing events" also spoken of in the manifesto first.
4. In the Rift trailer, they cut to the people, or show them in a window. In the manifesto trailer, the art is all around the people speaking. To me this gives the trailer a much more polished look.
Again, I tried to base this solely on the trailers. If I was going by the game I most want to play, GW2 would be #1.|||More impressive? Really? It looked like a bad infomercial to me. Something like that is fine as FAQ video but, it doesn't do anything for me as a normal trailer. I think trailers should get you emotional involved in the video so you want to play it. Having geeks and bad VO talking about how cool everything is the whole way comes across badly as a trailer imo.
While great to look at I'm getting a little tired of people judging a game based off a well done CGI trailer. It's not meant as a knock to TOR (I haven't played it so I can't really comment on it), just a general comment.|||They were good trailers, all of them. But I think a great video game trailer is part cool cinematics (in-game or not) preferably with some decent story, and part gameplay features worth salivating about.
About Rift, I'd have to agree that what the players said would have been nice if they'd been backed up by something concrete. Like one said: "all annoying features in other MMOs have been fixed", ok, like give me a few examples. I do like the idea of the rifts though, changing how the environment is around them is pretty neat. But the rest seems clonish.
Doing a side-by-side comparison with GW2. I have to admit, GW2 is a lot more specific about what they've changed and why it's better.|||'Rift allows you to save 4 different builds! :D'
Yes, and Guild Wars lets me save however many I want. Your point?
I looked into Rift before, and it just looked like a very pretty grindfest, with the novelty of the rifts opening up and stuff invading from them. That's all I got from it. Zzz.|||Honestly, the rifts themselves look neat and sound interesting. Not enough to take me away from GW1, but it would have been enough to lure me away from WoW at least for a while.|||Quote:

Honestly, I've participated in the beta events so far and the game, Rift that is, has huge potential for high level content. But that's not what matters to me and with the great improvements that they've made to WoW's lower level content with Cataclysm I just don't think it will compete. WoW will have to hold me over until Guild Wars 2 comes out.|||Was not impressed by either the 1# or 2# trailer.
Nr 1# was just a Cinematic, I mean a CG is not a trailer, it's a CG. It tells me nothing about the game whatsoever and that's what a trailer is supposed to do, tell me about the game. I agree that the CG was awesome in itself, but as far as advertising the game it sucked ***.
Nr 2# had me a little interested, but their focus was to much at hype trough words and not enough hyping trough facts and concepts. Look at the GW2 trailer, they don't stand there and say "This is the next generation for MMo's", what they say is "We want to innovate, we want to expand, we want to improve" and then they show how they've done that. Besides the graphics in Rift looked pretty poor and the concept of rifts doesn't seem to hold as much potential for innovation as GW 2's DES-System which will be able to do the same thing AND much much more.
