Release date?

[:1]Just a quick note that GAME in the UK have the pre order boxes for GW2 on their shelves.
Now I am not saying it is out next week, far from it, but if this is the case then it generaly means that the game is within 6 months of release, and we might get it before christmas.
A friend of mine says that IGN have it listed as 2nd Nov release (I haven't checked this), but the maths works.

Rea|||I just checked and IGN does have a release date of 11/2/11, however I won't buy into any release hype til we here it from ANet themselves.|||No official statement from ANet and what hints we have do not point in the direction of a release this year (with the beta tests still coming and all) so I'd take this as half a grain of salt that's actually not salt at all.|||Quote:

What he says|||Any release dates not announced by Anet themselves are either place holders or pure speculation, in either case not accurate.

Well that's not true, it's still possible even if unlikely. Remember Anet said the beta will be very close to release, I take this as the beta will only last a few weeks, tops a month. A beta could be announced at gamescom or even after that and they'd still have time to release the game in November without a problem. I don't think this is the case personally, just saying it's not impossible.|||Quote:

Maybe possible by stretching, but to get the information from these sources like that makes the release date based on these sources the amount of salt described above.|||A games shop chain in my end was taking pre-orders for GW2 3 years ago.|||I want the release day to be like christmas 2013 just to give me chance to get all the stuff i need to get done out the way!
Plus I want a CE all the way!

Wow, umm... no, just no. As has been said in the thread already, some companies were selling pre orders 3 years ago. They have no idea when it's coming out. This does not generally mean the game is within 6 months of release, and we are not going to get it before christmas unless it's a good time before then.
The reason? The same reason we did not get any news in December (and if I remember correctly, in November either). People are on vacation, and thankfully anet knows you can't have people on vacation right after releasing an mmo, as there will always be bugs that need fixing ASAP.
The official word of when gw2 is released is all that can be trusted. Right now the official word is that the closed alpha and beta will be sometime this year (I believe the alpha has started already due to some key phrases being used recently), and that the open beta's start would depend on how those two go. So if it goes well we might get it in the spring instead of summer (I'm guessing of course, don't quote me bro).|||Haven't you learned?

Originally in development under 3D Realms, director George Broussard, one of the creators of the original Duke Nukem game, first announced the title's development in April 1997, and various promotional information for the game was released between 1997 and 2008. After repeatedly announcing and deferring release dates, 3D Realms announced in 2001 that it would be released simply "when it's done".
