Reason for re-envisioning the silvary:

The sylvari were one of those cases where one of the artists on the team — she really came up with a new vision of what they should be and how to go about it and was itching to give them a re-work.|||OMG races to be introduced in expansion packs! <3
No info on Sylvari, and probably not for a couple months' time either. BOOO!|||I was so excited for sylvari. Few more moths, apparently. A bummer.|||Quote:
Daniel: Were happy! Some aspects may still change between now and ship, although our time is running out and well need to wrap it up sooner or later, but we always reserve the right to improve on certain aspects as time and budget allows. To iterate and make it better.
Interesting and encouraging: I am hearing the message "We need to finish." more and more often!|||Quote:
Right now I’m more and more thinking of the next races to be introduced in future expansion packs
I can't say I'm excited for this one.

Although Daniel and ArenaNet’s PR team weren’t quite ready to provide a glimpse of the sylvari at this time, we have since received an open invitation to return to the subject in a couple of months time, where we will hopefully get a glimpse of the redesign.
A couple of months?! thats atleast 2, probably 4 months! We can assume that beta is after sylvari reveal, so no beta in summer holiday. Beta around christmas? Release around this time next year? This waiting game is hard..|||Yes, it's part of their normal language now. End of 2011 maybe?
@Nohjo: are you excited about the current non-human races?|||I would not take for granted that the new races in expansion packs he mentions means new playable races. Could be NPC races too. Just as a word of caution before the hype train leaves the station completely.. (of coures, I do think it makes sense from a balance point of view to have new races and maybe new weapons in exp packs in stead of new professions, but still). Anyways, a good read :)|||Quote:

Yeah.. I like it, it gives depth to the story.
But I *think* he is revering to new playable races.|||Thanks for voice of reason, Lensor. I still like to think that Expansions will feature some combo of new race(s), profession(s), and/or weapon(s). And new skills. I just hope they think better on how to introduce new professions. I always felt new profs were a bit clunky - can only start in their own campaign, can only get skills there, can't even get armors or weapons on previous campaigns... Also the whole "new gameplay element introduced that doesn't quite fit in with what's already there" i.e. shadowstep for everone.
@Nohjo: I think so too, but I can't see why someone wouldn't be excited about new playable races, except if that person didn't like the concept of playable races to begin with.|||Makes sense to me. At this stage in GW2 development there is probably little call for new concept art, so the concept artists will be among the first to start looking ahead at the next project.
