The easiest way to deliver the blood would be leaving it in the body, so why not?
(The plan: tell adventurers about the fantastic treasures that still await down there. Darkness eats adventurers, thus having it's sacrifice; or the adventurers kill it, letting me out of the deal. Win/win for me.)
