Gamescom

[:1]holy frak, they weren't kidding that there's big things coming at this show! holy frak.

Seven professions Play all seven professions that weve revealed so far: engineer, thief, guardian, necromancer, ranger, warrior, and elementalist.
Charr starter experience For the first time, you can forge your destiny as a member of the Iron, Ash, or Blood Legion in our charr starter area. You can also choose to play the human and norn starting experience as well.
Mid level demo As always, weve prepared a higher level demo experience for players who want a challenge. Face powerful Orrian enemies on land, engage them in battle underwater and face off against a new boss.
Sylvari and asura Did I mention that youll be playing sylvari and asura characters for this high level content? Yes, for the first time, players will be able to get their hands on these unique races believe me, they are impressive!
Character appearance customization Also for the first time, youll be able to play around with our character appearance customization feature and control the way your character looks.
PvP Last but certainly not least, were premiering Guild Wars 2 Player vs Player (PvP) at gamescom! Swing by the ESL booth and head to the Guild Wars 2 area to get your exclusive hands-on PvP experience. Also check out our periodic exhibition matches that pit our valiant team of ArenaNet developers against the European guild BOON Control on the ESL center stage!
http://www.arena.net/blog/get-ready-for-gamescom|||Wow, so here's some of what we have left:
One profession
Race weeks for Asura and Sylvari (should be soon)
Two starting areas
WvW
What else? We're definitely getting close!|||Aside from not showing the mesmer yet, they haven't really shown anything about how the personal story works. I've only seen really, really limited clips of it from the human starter area. Hopefully, we'll see more of it and how it's hopefully improved with the charr starter area. I'd like to have them keep what happens hidden outside of the really early stuff. I don't want any spoilers.|||Playable Asura, Character creation and PvP really surprised me! The only major thing left to show IMO would be the last profession. I have a feeling WvWvW will be shown at Pax or possibly even wait for the open beta. The personal story line will probably not be shown much due to not wanting to spoil anything. The other small stuff such as info about guilds etc. can be done in a blog.
Not sure if I'm being overly optimistic, but I think we'll see an open beta before the year is over.|||That's a big set of bombs they are dropping at the same time. The release is again a bit closer.|||Quote:

First paragraph is qft, but I think you are being optimistic on the second one. Closed beta will definitely be happening, but I really don't see open beta happening. Hopefully we'll see it in Q1 2012 though. Remember they said it wouldn't be out for long before the game is released, and they want to use that time to fix bugs, which is hard if it's done in December as most people are taking vacations and visiting family. That goes for Anet and potential testers as well. January would be nice though, failing that I wouldn't be suprised if open beta started in Febuary.

Indeed, I was getting a bit discouraged due to the lack of new info lately but I think the dry spell is about to end.|||I'd have to agree about the overoptimism of predicting open beta this year.
Once again SDCC interviews and the panel mentioned things that are not only far from finished, but don't even have a final plan for completion. Chat? They don't know yet how that will be set up (number of channels, etc.). Traits? The ones in the demo are placeholders, and they're still tossing around ideas for how traits will actually be acquired in game. Attributes? We WILL be able to respec our characters, but they aren't sure exactly how it will work. Add to this the laundry list of other things mentioned in the past. Ranger/pet revisions, guild halls, auction house, etc., etc.
That's an awful lot of stuff to complete in time for a closed beta, even if they let some of it slide until after the beta. Then they have to work on whatever issues the closed beta reveals, plus anything they let slide, before they can do an open beta. I can't see this all being done in the next five months.|||I'm all set. Fly out on Aug 16th! Woot!|||Huge amount of stuff we are going to get, though I still hold to my original plan. That is closed beta q4 this year, open beta q1 next year release on the anniversary of GW1.|||Quote:

Be sure to tell us if WvWvW is the second coming of Christ as we think it is (at least from my perspective).
