Anyone else disappointed in Asura week so far

[:1]I have found the Asura week releases thus far disappointing. It seems to me like they are treating the Asura almost like a comic relief type of race.
Like I said it is more a feeling than anything I can directly point to and say that's what I am talking about. It just feels like they don't take the Asura seriously and if they don't, how are we suppose to view them as anything more than a joke.
The new look is somewhat cartoonish, the article about the lore by Jeff Grubb just seems childish and feels weak. Even the conversation pieces today make me feel like I am listening to little kids. How exactly am I suppose to take this race seriously.
I am interested to hear others opinions. I really want to take them seriously, I mean I reserved a name specifically for an Asura. I just hope I am wrong.|||Uhh, they've said several times that the Asura aren't meant to be taken seriously.
/thread|||Uhh...Dwayna help you if you DON'T take them seriously, bookah.|||I really like that Asura are the comic relief type of race.|||Asurans remind me of Invader Zim, only actually smart. I've liked them so far. Maybe their disposition is not to be taken seriously (and certainly their insults shouldn't be taken that way... they're just mouthy), but as a race in itself they are pretty important. I imagine they're going to want to see the Dragon threat downed as much as any other race, especially considering they're basically refugees.|||Well then, this is one race I won't be playing. It is bad enough dealing with all the jerks in pre searing spewing off at the mouth trying to get dhuum'd. Why would I want to play a race where players are likely going to be encouraged for that. This race will likely end up being played by immature teenagers.
I just don't understand why you would create a race to be laughed at and not be taken seriously. I think that will undermine confidence in the game as a whole. Just my opinion, so don't jump down my throat if you disagree, but instead please state your points so that maybe I can understand why people would want this.|||Quote:

And 30-something parents like myself...
I think you're looking at just the comic aspects and not the rest of the race. Yes, their voices are a little higher pitched than the other races. They're smaller, so their vocal chords are shorter, so that's a given. Yes, they're snarky, but they're not flippant. Yes, they have silly animations. Have you see the way their bodies are shaped? Of course they move strangely. However, if you read the Mr Sparkles story, you would be wise to the fact that not taking an asura seriously is a very dangerous mistake.
Think of the asura as subterranean Tyrion Lannisters. Sure, they're easy to make fun of given what they look like and their overall demeanor, but you do so at your own peril.|||It's a game...they're funny. I like fun in my game.|||Quote:

I think the immature teenagers are more likely to choose:
Norn : BIG AND STRONG, because teenagers want to feel big (lol over generalisation) .
Sylvari : The 'cool', mysterious, exotic, special race.
Charr: See Norn, but with cat-ness.
Asuran are the less cool, but oddly threatening with their superior intellect, kinda race. Unlikely to be picked up by a mind which just wants to be all big and cool and special and different. But that's just how I see it.
I'll be playing an Asuran Thief for sure, I've said this ever since they announced Asuran as a playable race (although I did say Asuran Assassin back then...). I loved the Asura the first time I met them, their quick wit and incredible stubbornness (and resilience) made me love them, despite their faults.
Honestly I think the contrast between having such a smart race that is so diminutive and odd looking is a selling point. Usually, the small races are portrayed as having different sorts of values in MMOs, while the smart races are usually the more 'exotic', mysterious, and dark types. It's a nice change.|||I think what Khanisaurus is trying to say is that jerks who like to call others noobs will be more likely to play this race and that the more people role play them, the more likely those people will sound like jerks. Maybe the npcs themselves won't be bad that way (I figure they'll make me laugh more than anything) but I can see why he has reservations on how the asuran pc community will be acting.
