If lore is your kind of thing.... There's a new post up about the Hylek, another GW race:
http://www.arena.net/blog/go-forth-a...iply-the-hylek|||Is Heket a tribe of Hylek or did they actually change the name for GW:2?
(or perhaps get it right this time?)
Also in the article it mentions the "Durotl" which I can't find any reference too. . . perhaps another race?

Ignore the first part. . . the article explains it as I read further
-|||In GW:1 the Hylek was a tribe name, not the races name.
Says right in the post, Hylek was first a tribe name, but over the years it became the name of the race. I as a player just called all frog people Hylek, so I see where the lore is going with this.
Quote:
The hylek are the frog people of Tyria. Once the name of a specific tribe, it is now common parlance to call all frog people “hylek.” Even the frog people themselves have adopted the name “hylek” for their race, though they also keep individual tribe names to distinguish themselves from one another.|||Reading about how NPCs from GW1 ultimately died always makes me sad. I mean, Tekk was kind of a jerk, but still. I had the same reaction to <spoiler>'s tomb and <spoiler>'s death in the GoA and EoD novels respectively.
Interesting change in design- I see they still have the traditional brightly colored "rain forest" hylek, but also a less exotic-looking green one. A relative of Frog's?
Another reference to alchemy... an unrevealed profession, someone players will be able to perform, or just another element in the background of the game universe?
@Squid: If they're doing it "right", hylek and heket will be very distantly related but one not being a subset of the other. But since heket are only in Elona, I doubt we'll find out for a very long time.|||Quote:

My guess is background element. Even GW1 was full of herbalists making potions, which is something no player could do. Sarah (Gwen's mother) was one, and a couple of Prophecies quests involved finding ingredients for curative potions. Kaineng City had its dealers in potions and cures, presumably not all of whom were snake-oil salesmen. Elona was full of herbalists, including the one in Yohlon Haven who made the strength potion for Koss.
Somehow I doubt GW2 will base a whole profession on this, though there could be alchemical aspects to one of the unrevealed professions. I note that both Snaff and Kranxx in the GW2 novels did a lot of things with "power stones", which might also be considered an alchemical activity. This could be an asura thing, but might also be something to do with both sharing the same profession. (Seeing as neither of them have a named profession.)|||I didn't read the post (lore... zzzzzz....), but maybe the Hylek will be playable in an expansion, at which point we'll see an alchemist profession or tradeskill?|||I really wish Heket was a playable race, rather than Asura...|||Quote:

Rather than the norn for me. Asura is unique, many people like them (me included). Norn is big human with different lore basically. The norn guardian gameplay might have been human guardian as far as I saw it. The Heket would be my favorite for sure though.|||Quote:

I'm not at all sure the vaunted Engineer won't be called Alchemist. Iirc, Clagg and Kranx* were both called alchemists in the first novel, which also revealed the thief profession in its main character. Plus, having a utility bag ala Kranx would be a lot more interesting than getting turrets as a 'unique' mechanic.
*The second Asura.
Spoiler
Died at the end, rode the snake made out of bones. Had a bag with him filled with gadgetry. That one.|||Meh, another race I'll gladly bash away at, totally ignoring their rich and diverse culture. :P
