Gamereactor Interview w/ Johanson

A 9 minute video reactor was just released w/ Colin Johanson @ Game Reactors. Credit goes to Guru for finding this.

It's always cool to hear Colin enthusiastically talk about GW2.|||Overview:
-They feel excited, they know what the game will be, they feel they need to just finish it up and get all the elements together and get it out there
-They don't want to make a safe game, they want to change whatever they need to make it fun
-They want to improve on what they did well, and they want to add in everything they couldn't before and make it fantastic
-They're not competing against WoW, no monthly fee means players can play GW2 in parallel to a subscription fee game
-GW2 has to be fun at its heart, and dynamic events is the core of that... ad-hoc groups, fun stuff to do that is different every time you log in
-Dungeons cater to players who want specific tasks with more difficult content that requires cooperation and organization, that give access to unique armor and weapon skins
-Achievements also have unique rewards
-Casual players have plenty to do especially in open world
-Personal story guides you in the world, but also branches... and they aim to make the personal story to be as good or better as the best RPG out there (with branching and voice acting and all)|||The second part of Gamereactor's Interview with Colin Johanson has been released:

More tid-bids on Sylvary's lore was discussed but there are other topics discussed as well.
Colin mentions that they need to finish putting all the content in (again).|||Loads slowly and buggily. I prefer the youtube version:

or|||Thanks for the summary, Alaris: I was not about to sit through that lol
One question: Why hasn't ANet sent me one of those GW2 shirts yet?|||Summary of #2:
-Story and environment in GW2 has lots of hints about GW1 and what happened since, but you don't need to know GW1 to play GW2. You'll learn what you need to know about GW1 within GW2.
-Sylvari are plant-like etc, and so is their archeology etc. Totally cool stuff (but neither concept art or in-game SS are shown here).
-Sylvari are curious, they are often where they shouldn't be just because they want to learn about the world.
-What needs to be done before GW2 is shipped: (1) put in remaining systems and fine-tune each to contentment and then talk to fans about those, (2) finish putting the content in, it's a game that feels larger than everything else they've done combined.
-They don't want to discuss features unless these are in the game, working well. They don't want to lose the trust of fans by promising features that might not be implemented or might not work as intended.
-Norn keg brawl: 5 vs 5 minigame where you have to take kegs back to your brewery using brawling skills... really funny stuff apparently|||Quote:

lol I am now expecting to run into random Sylvari NPCs standing around in crazy dangerous areas, completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Second quoted point makes me drool. Sounds like the game is pretty far along.|||My main is likely Sylvari, and very very likely to end up in places she doesn't belong hahah!
It's nice to hear the 2nd quote, I admit... not so much because it tells how far along the game is, but as confirmation of that what we heard about so far is actually working well and is fun, and is very likely making it in the final product just like they told us.
In other words, they're not hyping it, they're presenting it as is.
